The Arcitype & AR Classic Records proudly present a new series aimed at shining light on the often-under appreciated creators behind the boards; The Producers.
In 2014, The Arcitype set up a portable production studio inside the walls of Annie Mulz’s ‘Kyoto Jungle’ store front in Back Bay, Boston, MA. From 12-8pm he created an all original 10-track beat tape from scratch, and then held the release party for it the same night, allowing people to hear the final completed product as it was released online for the world to experience. Ever since then, The Arcitype has been playing with the idea of turning his concept into a series that could act as a platform to showcase other producers.
The Shift is that idea now realized. Producers clock in for an 8-hr shift in which they create a beat tape from the ground up inside a store front. The completed tape is released that same evening during a release party also held at the same store front.
Season 2
We're back for a second season of The Shift this February, and are currently looking for sponsorship support to help continue the high caliber product and experience The Shift offers as well as help it grow to reach a wider audience.
Impact
The response The Shift has received in it's first year is indicative of the importance a series like this is to the ever-growing producer community. Each event draws a variety of producers, performing artists, bloggers and tastemakers to come together and celebrate the creativity of the producer, all the while organically creating an platform for real networking. Veterans and newcomers mix and discuss production history and technology, music trends and more. The Shift is a breeding ground for producers of all levels to connect, collaborate and learn from their peers, while simultaneously creating a new piece of art that lives on beyond the day's event.
"Some of my favorite moments from witnessing the brilliance, love & the creative energy emanating forth from Mass Apparel during The Shift sessions throughout 2017. [...] Looking forward to these happening again in 2018. Salute to The Arcitype, AR Classic Records & the great folks at Mass Apparel... Come through, you won’t regret it... "

"Taking part in The Shift forced me to step out of my comfort zone and while I didn't create the best thing i've done, I took away an invaluable experience that forever impacted my career and my work for the better. As artists it is essential for us to challenge ourselves daily and capitalize on opportunities like these both as professionals and as humans. Big Shout out to The Arcitype and The Shift for making a series all about this and for including me in the event."
- Lightfoot (Vol. 1)
